English Tuition in East Grinstead
Helping Young Minds to Grow and Develop
I have many years’ experience in teaching using several different methods. As with my maths tuition, my work is predominantly based in the Montessori method and style of teaching which involves use of real materials to convey a concept and then moving to learning in the abstract once a child has understood this concept.

- Hour lesson £30
Depending on what needs to be taught, your child’s individualised learning programme may consist of a combination of the following activities:
Handwriting
Formation of letters, print and cursive script.
Spellings
Working on basic phonetic words and ‘puzzle’ words such as ‘the’, ‘said’ and ‘one’ through to complicated words and word lists assigned to each year group.
Reading
Working on early letter recognition and phonetic reading through to complicated words and understanding patterns such as ‘kn’ sounding as ‘n’.
Story writing
Work on how to structure a story and how to build it for example, using adjectives and adverbs. This area can also cover the difference between writing fiction and non-fiction and using direct and indirect speech.
Grammar and punctuation
Work on areas from early capital letters and full stops through to commas, speech marks and colons. I also for example, can work with understanding and being able to use nouns, verbs, and adjectives as well as being able to understand and use different tenses.

Over 25 Years of Experience
All children are given a FREE initial assessment to determine what year level they’re currently working at and to identify any learning gaps.
Parents/guardians or carers are kept fully briefed as to the outcome of each lesson, and are involved in the input of the on-going lessons. I will frequently work out a projection of what we would like to achieve over the time that I am working with the child and then share this with the parents/guardians or carers and the child involved.
